Gas carburizing
The mechanical property of steel depends on the amount of carbon content. Carbonization is a heat treatment method to penetrate and diffuse carbon on the material surface by heating the low carbonization material in a gas. (it’s literally ‘carbonization’.)
Then, apply hardening after carbonization to harden the surface and the central part will become extremely tough. This is applied for a lot of parts like gears and shafts that are required to have strength and abrasion resistance.

Gas Carbonitriding quenching
Generally, carbonization treatment is done at high temperature at approximately 930°. For that reason, deformation caused by hardening can be big. Carbonitriding can make the carbonization treatment possible at the low temperature of about 800° by mixing a little amount of nitrogen gas in the carbonization gas and penetrating and diffusing the carbon and nitrogen on the surface of the material. In addition to that, it is also applicable for those lower consistency steels with less amount of alloy content by using the nitrogen effect on the surface.
