Marquench treatment is generally cooled down in salt (e.g. NaNO2: KNO3=1: 1 melting point: 140°) after glowing. (it’s not that long in cooling compared to austempering.) For this treatment, hardening with less temperature irregularities on both the surface and inside is possible and this has the effect of inhibiting deformations.

Stability of thermal strain

Both the surface and inside are cooled down right up to Ms point and given a martensitic transformation gradually, then the thermal strain will be stabilized.
